JCB Wins US Marine Corps Deal for 4CX Backhoes

The US Marine Corps has agreed to purchase JCB’s 4CX backhoe loaders for a total of $45 million over five years. To serve a wide range of tactical and engineering objectives, the agreement comprises equipment supply, attachment testing, and operator training.

After a $39 million agreement for militarized Multi-Terrain Loaders in 2024, this is JCB’s second significant contract with the USMC in recent years. The new contract solidifies JCB’s position as a supplier of heavy machinery for military uses.

Highlights of the Equipment

In harsh environments, the JCB 4CX backhoe loader is made to be both adaptable and useful. Its Powerslide system and side-shift boom provide accurate lateral movement, increasing the machine’s digging range by 10% and allowing it to operate in confined or blocked areas without the need for repositioning. Additionally, this configuration enables full outrigger deployment in constrained spaces, which makes it perfect for military operations and urban infrastructure.

The machine’s small design improves road handling and space efficiency by reducing its transport length by more than four feet when not in use. Other necessary specifications are:

1. More maneuverability with three steering modes
2. For improved traction on soft ground, four tires of the same size
3. A swing reach of more than 17 feet and a dig depth of more than 14 feet
4. Added material handling functionality with an integrated lifting point

Ongoing Military Cooperation

Along with this most recent arrangement, JCB has a history of providing both commercially modified and purpose-built equipment to support U.S. military missions. These include the U.S. Army’s Light Capability Rough Terrain Forklift (LCRTF) and High Mobility Engineer Excavator (HMEE).

Additionally, JCB makes investments in workforce efforts for Veterans, such as hiring programs, job training, and national collaborations that facilitate career transfers from the military to the manufacturing and construction sectors.

The new agreement reaffirms JCB’s dedication to equipment reliability in both tactical and civilian applications, as well as its continued cooperation with defense agencies.
