Overseas UK Caregivers Recruitment Halts 2025

In a significant change to its immigration laws, the UK government has introduced new regulations that will go into force on July 22, 2025.
Home Secretary Yvette Cooper released the revisions in Parliament on Wednesday, calling them a “complete reset.”
Reducing migration and dependence on low-wage foreign labor are the goals of the measures.
The elimination of the offshore hiring process for social workers is one of the biggest developments.

As of July 22, new visa applications for UK caregivers roles from outside the UK will no longer be accepted.
Up until July 2028, UK caregivers or UK care providers who are currently in the nation will be permitted to change their visa status within the nation.
Additionally, the new system raises the qualifications and salary requirements for skilled worker visas. Most applicants will need a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in the future.
Stricter Rules for Skilled Worker Visas
This restriction will not apply to people who are currently living and working in the UK with valid visas.
According to Seema Malhotra, UK Minister for Migration and Citizenship, “The wage requirements for work visas are being increased by the latest Office for National Statistics data.”
Malhotra said that the updated salary categories and related exemptions will be examined by the Migration Advisory Committee.
The shortage occupation list, which previously made it simpler to obtain visas for highly sought-after jobs, will also be significantly reduced as a result of the amendments.
Plasterers and chefs are among the more than 100 jobs being eliminated.
Temporarily, a narrower list of “critical” posts will be kept in place, but they will no longer be eligible for reduced fees or the ability to bring dependents.
The government has assigned the MAC to examine the temporary list and decide which positions should be kept after 2026.

Tighter Controls on Migration and Visa Abuse
Only a few professions will qualify, and they will be subject to stricter guidelines meant to promote workforce development in the area.
In order to reduce migration, restore order to the immigration system, and make sure that we concentrate on investing in skills and training in the UK, these new regulations entail stricter controls.
According to Cooper, “After the last government permitted net migration to triple in four years, we implemented a complete reset of our immigration system in an attempt to bring back proper control and order.”
The revisions, according to the Home Office, are meant to address long-standing concerns about worker exploitation and reduce abuse of the UK caregivers visa route. Reducing the UK’s dependency on lower-skilled migrants is another goal of the measures.
