Uber Bets Big on Travel, Hotels and AI Voice Bookings

Uber Bets Big on Travel

The Uber on Wednesday unveiled several new products at its annual Go-Get event in New York, aiming to attract more users and expand beyond its core ride-hailing business. The company is increasingly positioning itself as a broader lifestyle platform.

Instead of focusing heavily on its driverless car ambitions, Uber highlighted new verticals such as hotel bookings and shopping. These additions reflect its strategy to evolve into an all-in-one “super app.”

Over the years, Uber has explored multiple areas, including freight, chauffeur services, grocery delivery, and even partnerships for electric air taxis. These efforts show its intent to diversify revenue streams.

CEO Dara Khosrowshahi emphasized that the goal is to simplify travel experiences for users, making Uber the first app they open when entering a new city.

Uber Expands Into Travel and Hotel Bookings

Travelers can now book accommodations directly through Uber, thanks to a partnership with Expedia Group. The platform offers access to over 700,000 hotel options across the U.S.

A new hotel feature allows users to filter stays by price, ratings, and amenities. Uber One members also benefit from exclusive discounts and rewards on bookings.

The company plans to expand into home rentals through Vrbo later this year, further strengthening its travel ecosystem.

This move places Uber in direct competition with major travel platforms like Booking Holdings and Airbnb.

AI Voice Booking and Smart Features

Uber is integrating more artificial intelligence into its platform, including a new voice booking chatbot powered by OpenAI models. This allows users to book rides using simple voice commands.

The company is also rolling out AI-powered tools to enhance user experience, such as smart cart assistants for grocery delivery and automated menu descriptions.

These features aim to make interactions faster, more intuitive, and personalized for customers across services.

Uber continues to invest in both its own AI systems and third-party technologies to strengthen its platform capabilities.

Shopping, Travel Mode, and New User Perks

Uber is expanding into shopping by allowing users to request items from stores not listed on the app. Personal shoppers can fulfill these requests based on user-provided details.

The company also introduced “Travel Mode,” offering perks like ride credits, zero delivery fees abroad, and curated recommendations for tourist hotspots.

Additionally, Uber is launching a room service feature that delivers essential items directly to hotel guests, enhancing convenience for travelers.

To further improve the experience, premium ride users can now add food or coffee orders during trips, blending transportation with on-demand services in a seamless journey.
